FISHING – THE PEAK PASSPORT SCHEME
Peak Angling Passport Scheme gives access to beats are all around the uplands of Staffs/Derbys in the Peak District and so are in some great countryside and some really wild fishing. We understand there are beats available on our local rivers Manifold & Dove. One beat is a stone’s throw from the Manifold Inn.
We found this story from a fisherman on a Blog about his experience fishing the River Manifold beat just a few minutes’ walk from the Manifold Inn.
On Monday evening I fished the section upstream of the bridge on Beat 8 (Hulme End Bridge, River Manifold) and I can safely say it is absolutely teeming with wild browns who kindly obliged the dry fly – in fact a bloody big Cinammon Sedge was greedily snapped up readily and regularly whenever placed above the ripples of a rising fish or landed into the many lovely little riffles of the stretch. I only had an hour to fish it through but had seven fish in total, the best about 8″, missing many many more, but I’m certain there are bigger fish in there because of the abundance of variation of in-stream features and depth, as well as bags of cover in the shape of overhanging vegetation. In fact its make-up is very similar to my local small stream which harbours more than the occasional 3/4 – 1lb fish so I wouldn’t be surprised to catch similar if I was lucky enough to land here with more time and better conditions (excuses excuses!).
