COACHING INN & TRADITIONAL FREEHOUSE
The Manifold Inn is a delightful 200 year old coaching inn and restaurant that offers warm hospitality and quality home cooked food for visitors to the beautiful White Peak.
Our mellow stone inn is positioned within its own grounds nestled on the banks of the Manifold River opposite The Old Toll House which used to serve the turnpike and river ford. Our beautiful, listed building is located close to a number of popular walking and cycling routes, including the Manifold Trail and set amongst the famous Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Dales which offer some of England’s most natural and unspoilt scenery. The Manifold Inn is the perfect place to use as a base for exploring the surrounding natural countryside of the White Peak area or to visit the local Market towns of Bakewell & Ashbourne or Spa towns of Buxton & Matlock and their surrounding attractions.
Originally named the ‘Jolly Carter’, our inn has been in use since 1782. It has been run by many different families over the years with changes such as the barn additions in the 1800’s, though these weren’t converted into accommodation for many years to come, and the more recent addition of the outside bar in the top field. The name has changed a few more times since the 1700’s. In 1879 it changed to the ‘Hulme End Inn’ and again in 1903 to ‘The Wagon and Horses’ though this didn’t last long as in 1904 the name changed to ‘The Light Railway Hotel’.
In 1984 the Inn became known as ‘The Manifold Valley Hotel’, leading to our current name: ‘The Manifold Inn’.
